[edit] Biographical Information
Lee Ballanfant was a National League umpire from 1936 to 1957.
From 1915 to 1919, Ballanfant played semi-pro ball and served in the Army. He was a minor league infielder from 1920 to 1925, in small Southwestern leagues. In 1925 he served as player/manager for the Greenville Hunters for part of the year. He retired after suffering a broken leg.
Ballanfant began umpiring in the Lone Star League in 1927-1928, then moved on to the Texas League from 1929 to 1935.
After retiring from umpiring, Ballanfant was a scout for the Houston Astros from 1964 to 1970 and the Texas Rangers from 1973 to 1981.
