Laval is located on Île-Jésus, across the Rivière-des-Prairies from Montréal, QC of which it is a residential suburb. Laval was formed by the amalgamation of all the municipalities which existed on the island and is the third largest city in Quebec by population, after Montreal and Québec, QC.
