The Las Vegas Stars were the AAA affiliate of the San Diego Padres in the Pacific Coast League from 1983 to 2000. For their entire existence, they played their home games in Cashman Field. The Stars won league titles in 1986 and 1988. Some of the most notable names to play for the club include Sandy Alomar Jr. (PCL MVP in 1988 and 1989), Roberto Alomar, Andy Benes, Ozzie Guillen, John Kruk, Kevin McReynolds (1983 PCL MVP), and Benito Santiago. Tony Gwynn also played with the Stars on a rehab assignment. In 2001, the team became a farm club of the Los Angeles Dodgers and was renamed the Las Vegas 51s.
