Larry Schmittou coached Vanderbilt University from 1968 to 1978. He was named Minor League Executive of the Year in 1978 and 1989 with the Nashville Sounds. Schmittou owned a number of other minor league teams, including the Salt Lake City Gulls, Greensboro Hornets, Salem Redbirds, and Eugene Emeralds in 1982 (at least) and the Daytona Beach Islanders in 1985.
