On the day after his uniform was retired in basketball, Larry Bird took the field for both games of a doubleheader in baseball for the Indiana State Sycamores. He entered the first game against Western Kentucky University and struck out. In the second game, he started and played the first three innings. In his second, and final at bat, he singled in two runs. He also made nine putouts at first base. Two months later, Bird would sign with the Boston Celtics and begin a 13 year career that led him to the Basketball Hall of Fame. He never played baseball again.
