[edit] Biographical Information
Larry Rothschild pitched in the minors for eleven seasons and made seven big league appearances with the Detroit Tigers in 1981 and 1982. All of his appearances occurred in September call-ups. In 1981, four of the five games he appeared in were against the Cleveland Indians.
After his playing career ended, he was a roving instructor for the Cincinnati Reds (1986-1989) before becoming the Reds Bullpen coach for two years (1990 and 1991) and then pitching coach for another two (1992 and 1993). After spending the 1994 season as a minor league roving pitching instructor for the Atlanta Braves he was back in the big leagues as a pitching coach for the Florida Marlins from 1995 to 1997. He became the first manager of the expansion Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1998 and remained with the club until 2001. In 2002 he became the Chicago Cubs pitching coach and stayed there through the 2010 season. In 2011 Rothschild took over as pitching coach for the New York Yankees.
