The son of Bryan Harvey, Kris Harvey was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the 2002 amateur draft. He did not sign and instead attended Clemson University. He was then chosen by the Florida Marlins in the second round of the 2005 amateur draft and made his pro debut that year with the Jamestown Jammers, hitting .300 with 9 home runs and 38 RBIs. He spent 2006 with the Greensboro Grasshoppers and hit .245 with 15 homers and 60 RBIs there. The next summer, he was with the Jupiter Hammerheads and batted .238 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI.
