[edit] Biographical Information

Kevin Hooker was a minor league infielder who became a scout.

Hooker was picked by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 31st round of the 1995 amateur draft. He split the summer between the Martinsville Phillies (.335/.419/.587, 46 RBI in 49 G) and the Piedmont Phillies (8 for 46, 9 BB, 2 2B). He was among the Appalachian League leaders in average (4th, between Johnny Isom and A.J. Pierzynski), OBP (4th, between Gene Kingsale and Carlos Mendoza), slugging (1st by 49 points over Jarrod Patterson), doubles (16, tied for 6th), homers (9, 10th) and RBI (7th, between Tony Boyette and Carlos Lee). He was named the Appy All-Star second baseman.

Hooker hit .253/.327/.326 and fielded .981 for his hometown Perth Heat in the 1995-1996 Australian Baseball League. Let go by Philadelphia, Hooker was only 2 for 30 with 9 whiffs (the hits were a double and homer, at least) for the 1996 Adirondack Lumberjacks to end his playing career one year after tearing up a league.

Kevin later was a Philadelphia scout from 2002-2008, signing Brad Harman, Scott Mitchinson, Alan Schoenberger, Todd Van Steensel and Tim Kennelly. He covered primarily Australia and also covered Asia. In 2009, he moved to the Detroit Tigers as Pacific Rim Coordinator. He signed Warwick Saupold for Detroit.
