Outfielder Kevin Garner was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1984 amateur draft by the Montreal Expos out of high school. He went to college and was drafted in the 1st round of the 1987 amateur draft by the San Diego Padres.
Garner was a DH/P (6 games pitched, 36 overall) for the Spokane Indians in 1987 and an outfielder who pitched only 2 games for the Riverside Red Wave in 1988.
On March 31, 1991 Garner was traded by the Padres with Joey Cora and Warren Newson to the Chicago White Sox for Adam Peterson and Steve Rosenberg.
