[edit] Biographical Information
Pitcher Kevin Ritz was signed as a 4th round pick (secondary phase) in the 1985 amateur draft by the Detroit Tigers and scout George Bradley (scout). After 4 seasons with the Tigers in which he failed to establish himself, he was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the 42nd pick of the 1992 expansion draft.
Ritz set a Rockies franchise record with 17 wins in 1996, against 11 losses. He set the mark in spite of leading the National League in earned runs allowed, walking as many batters as he struck out (105), and having an ERA over 5.00. Still, the mark has lasted until 2010, but for his part Ritz fell back to 6-8, 5.87 in 1997, and was out of baseball because of arm trouble early in the 1998 season.
