 Biographical Information
Third baseman Kevin Orie played four years in the big leagues, with excellent range in his prime. He also played with the minor league teams of ten major league organizations, posting a lifetime batting line of .298/.380/.498.
He was a first-round pick in 1993. He had been at Indiana University from 1991-93, along with Chris Peters who was there in 1992-93. After a 1996 season in the minors where his on-base percentage was .394, Orie came to the majors in 1997 and was the Cub's regular third baseman. It was also Ryne Sandberg's last year with the Cubs. Orie was the team's youngest regular position-player.
In 1998 his batting average slumped and he was traded to the 1998 Florida Marlins in mid-season. With the Marlins, his batting average recovered.
In 1999 he got some playing time with the Marlins as Mike Lowell battled cancer, but Orie also had injuries.
In the minors, Orie missed part of the 2000 season due to an injury as well as all of 2003 and part of 2004.
