A native Chicagoan, catcher Ken Silvestri made his big league debut with the Chicago White Sox in 1939. He managed to survive parts of eight seasons in the major leagues despite a no-hit tag and a .217 career BA. Served in the U.S. Army from December 1941 to November 1945.

After his playing career ended, Silvestri managed in the minors in the New York Yankees organization from 1955 to 1958. He was a coach with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1959-1960 and the Louisville Colonels in 1961-1962. He was then a coach with the Milwaukee Braves/Atlanta Braves (1963-1975), and served as interim manager for the Braves in 1967. Silvestri was also a coach for the Chicago White Sox in 1976 and 1982.
