[edit] Biographical Information
Ken Berry was a very good defensive centerfielder, known especially for leaping above the outfield wall to rob opposing hitters. He also had a strong and accurate arm. In 1966 and 1967, though, the Chicago White Sox had probably the two best defensive centerfielders in all of baseball in their line-up, between Berry and Tommie Agee, and Berry played the outfield corners while Agee was in center field. Ken went back to center after Agee was traded to the New York Mets before the 1968 season.
Berry was the New York Mets' minor league hitting instructor in 1995 and1996. He was then a coach for the Binghamton Mets (1998), Pittsfield Mets (1999-2000), and Kingsport Mets (2001). In 2007 he was a coach for the Brevard County Manatees in the Florida State League. In 2008, Berry was the Roving Outfield and Baserunning Coordinator for the Milwaukee Brewers.
He had a minor part in the 1988 movie Eight Men Out (as a fan), and served as a baseball consultant on the set, as well.
[edit] Notable Achievements
- AL All-Star (1967)
- 2-time AL Gold Glove Winner (1970 & 1972)
