[edit] Biographical information
Catcher Keith Champion played in the St. Louis Cardinals organization from 1982 to 1984, hitting .214 in 143 games and never advancing past A ball. After his playing career, he was a coach for the Springfield Cardinals in 1986 and managed in the minors from 1988 to 1994.
Champion was an advance scout for the Chicago Cubs from 1995 to 1999, and a Special Assistant to the General Manager from 2000 to 2006. He was then a scout for the Boston Red Sox in 2007-2008 and in 2009 is a Special Assistant to the General Manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is now (2011) a major league scout for the Pirates.
His brother, Kirk Champion, has worked in the Chicago White Sox organization as a pitching instructor.
