Justin Brunette pitched for the division-winning 2000 Cardinals, in a year in which the league ERA was 4.63. He was one of the youngest players on a team which featured oldsters such as 36-year-old Mark McGwire, 38-year-old Eric Davis, 37-year-old Shawon Dunston, 36-year-old Will Clark and 34-year-old Heathcliff Slocumb.

He had Tommy John surgery in 1998, but afterwards worked his way up to the majors.

In 2001 and 2002 he pitched for Binghamton and Norfolk.

He attended Ocean View High School and was at San Diego State University at the same time as Travis Lee and Jeff Davanon.
