[edit] Biographical Information

First baseman Juice Latham had five stops in his five years in the majors. He started in the National Association, and after one season in the National League spent the last three in the American Association.

He was player-manager in 1875 and 1882.

While apparently a good fielder at first, Latham was normally a below-average hitter. He did, however, in his best year in 1882, finish fourth in the league in RBI.

A source about Utica baseball says that Latham was called "Juice" because he had no speed, and that newspapers would call him "chubby". He started in baseball with Ottawa at age 17, and played for Utica in 1878 as well as 1886-87. He coached a Utica minor league team in 1901. He also played in Tecumseh, Binghamton, Springfield, Washington, Oneida, and Richfield. Utica players.
