[edit] Biographical Information
Outfielder Jose Gonzalez was signed for the Los Angeles Dodgers by scout Rafael Avila on August 12, 1980. He spent most of his eight-year major league career playing for the Dodgers. Always a back-up, his busiest years in the majors were in 1989 when he had 261 at-bats in 95 games and in 1990 when he had 99 at-bats in 106 games.
He was 20 years old when he broke into the majors in 1985 with the division-winning 1985 Dodgers (he did not appear in post-season play), and was 23 in 1988 when he appeared in the 1988 World Series with the Dodgers. His last season in the majors was at age 27.
- Caught the fly ball in right field whereby Orel Hershiser broke Don Drysdale's record for most consecutive scoreless innings (September 28, 1988).
