Joe Alvarez played minor league baseball from 1974 to 1977 in the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, and Baltimore Orioles organizations. A little-hitting infielder, he topped .225 once and had two career homers. After his playing career ended, he spent two seasons as a coach in the Orioles system before moving to the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and becoming a manager. After some time away from managing, he became skipper of the Hudson Valley Renegades following the 2007 season.
Alvarez is also known as Jose Alvarez.
