Jon Macalutas began his pro baseball career with the Salinas Peppers of the independent Western Baseball League in 1996 and had his contract purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers that June. He played five seasons in the Brewers chain, reaching the AA level, before returning to the Western League with the Chico Heat, for whom he played in 2001 and 2002. In 2008, Macalutas became skipper of the Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League.
