Leicester was primarily a shortstop in college at Memphis. In fact he was quite dreadful on the mound in his draft year but the Cubs drafted him as a pitcher in the 11th round of the 2000 amateur draft because of his arm strength. He was signed by scout Mark Adair and made his pro debut that summer for the Eugene Emeralds.
Leicester signed with the Orix Buffaloes for 2009 but spent the first two months in the minors. He was called up on May 30 and debuted the same day, performing terribly in relief with 3 walks and 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning in a 6-4 Buffaloes win over the Yokohama BayStars.
