Johnny Walker played three years in the majors. After getting into a few games as a catcher in 1919-20 in the majors, with the 1921 Athletics he became the starting first baseman.

Walker was born in Toulon, IL, north of Peoria, IL. By 1917 at age 20 he was playing for teams in the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League.

With the 1921 Athletics, the four infielders were all 24 years old: Walker at first, Jimmie Dykes at second, Chick Galloway at shortstop and Joe Dugan at third.

On August 18, 1921, the New York Times reported that Walker had suffered a brain concussion from a batted ball which knocked him unconscious.
