Pitcher Johnny Grodzicki was wounded in World War II and never fully recovered. He later went on to spend a season as a Detroit Tigers coach.
He managed the 1950 Geneva (AL) Red Birds, 1957 Wytheville Cardinals and 1961 Johnson City Cardinals.
