Johnny Echols, according to a site on the web, was signed at a tryout camp along with Marty Marion, and was given a four-year contract. It wasn't in writing, and Kenesaw Landis had to intervene after Echols was released to get him paid. According to Marion in the article, Echols was a top high school player, very polished.
