John Vann played 16 seasons in the minors, coming to the majors for one game with the 1913 St. Louis Cardinals. For much of 1913 he played with Sioux City where he had one of highest batting averages on the team; teammate Josh Clarke, brother of Fred Clarke, led that team in batting.
He was on the Shreveport team in March 1921 that played some spring training games against the 1921 New York Yankees. In the March 31 game, which Shreveport won, he batted eighth.
