John Trautwein played in the majors in 1988 on the division champion 1988 Red Sox. He was the same age as teammate Roger Clemens.
He was at Northwestern University at the same time as Marty Clary, Joe Girardi and Mike Huff. He went 15-4 for Jacksonville in 1987.
Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 1987 Rule V Draft. The Sox kept him in the bullpen but very rarely used him in a game. They never used him in a close game.
His father, Jack Trautwein, pitched in the minors from 1951 to 1954, mostly in the Philadelphia Phillies chain.
