John Scolinos


John Scolinos was the head baseball coach at Pepperdine University from 1946 to 1960 and at California State Polytechnic University-Pomona from 1962 to 1991. He led Pomona to the Division II College World Series in 1976, 1979, 1980, 1983, and 1985, winning in 1976, 1980, and 1983. Scolinos has the longest coaching tenure in the history of both schools.

Pepperdine annually awards the John Scolinos Distinguished Player Award to a Pepperdine baseball player in recognition of exemplary behavior during a season or career in the name of the legendary Scolinos. Pomona plays its home games at Scolinos Field.

As a first baseman, Scolinos played minor league baseball from 1937 to 1941, reaching as high as class C.
