John Reccius is the brother of Phil Reccius. The two were believed to have been twins for many decades but later research showed different birthdates and years.
John was the regular center fielder for the 1882 Louisville Eclipse. Younger brother Phil also played a few games for the Eclipse in 1882-83, the years when John was on the team. Phil later became a regular when John was no longer with the team.
In 1900 he put together the first baseball team at DuPont Manual High School.
