John McCarty pitched well for the 1889 Kansas City Cowboys. He was one of the few pitchers who had a winning record for the team, and his ERA was lower than the team average. He gave up lots of unearned runs, but so did everyone else.
He is one of three major leaguers with the last name "McCarty". There was also a "John McCarty" who played for the Toledo Mud Hens thirty years later.
