John Mabry's career numbers rank him as the top player chosen in the 6th round of the 1991 amateur draft, in every major statistical comparison.
He was named assistant hitting coach of the St. Louis Cardinals for 2012; the hitting coach was his former teammate Mark McGwire, and the manager another former teasmmate with the Cards, Mike Matheny. In 2013, following McGwire's departure, he was promoted to sole hitting coach.
