John Lyston was one of three baseball-playing brothers. Bill Lyston was an outfielder and Mortimer Lyston played shortstop and outfield. It appears the Lyston who appeared in one game for the 1891 Solons and the 1894 Spiders was John, an amateur pitcher from Baltimore.
In the minors John played for Winston-Salem.
