John Lynch was drafted in the second round by the Florida Marlins in the 1992 Amateur Draft.

He started the first game in the history of the Marlins organization, a short season A game for the Erie Sailors against the Jamestown Expos. He finished his baseball career the following season playing two games for the class A Kane County Cougars. He went 1-3 with an ERA of 2.37 in nine games, all starts.

He went on to become a star strong safety in the NFL making nine Pro Bowls (he was First Team All-Pro in 1999 & 2000) and winning a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2003) during a career which spanned from 1993-2007. He is currently a color commentator for NFL games on FOX. He and his wife, Linda, have four children: Jake, Lindsay, Lillian, and Leah Rose. Linda played tennis at USC and was a professional tennis player for two years.
