[edit] Biographical Information
John Dobbs was a minor league manager for 25 years between 1907 and 1933, mostly in the Southern Association. He managed the New Orleans Pelicans from 1914 to 1922, when he was replaced by Larry Gilbert. Also managed Nashville, Chattanooga, Montgomery, Memphis, Birmingham, and Atlanta, and also spent one year each in the South Atlantic League and the Piedmont League. Overall his teams went 1,918-1,487, winning five Southern Association pennants.
In 1931, while skipper of the Atlanta Crackers, Dobbs was suspended for 30 days for striking an umpire.
At the time of his death, Dobbs was the co-owner of the Charlotte Hornets in the Piedmont.
