John M. Connell (Red)

also known as Red Connolly

John Connell was an umpire in the American Association and National League from 1885 to 1893, working 179 games overall, 103 of them his first season. He has often been confused with Red Connolly (or Connally) a short-term player for the St. Louis Maroons in 1886, with whom he shares a similarity in names. Little is known about the ballplayer, but it is almost certain the two are different persons.
