Outfielder John Coker is a member of HCAW in 2007. It is his 3rd season in pro baseball.
Coker was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 37th round of the 2001 amateur draft but did not sign. He had set his high school's records in average (.468) and home runs (41).
After 2 years of junior college, Coker hit .248/.376/.321 with 22 steals in 29 games for the University of Louisiana - Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in 2003-2004. In 2004-2005, he batted .329/.461/.494 with 29 steals in 35 tries, 10 triples and 82 runs in 67 games. He led the Sunbelt Conference in both runs and triples.
Undrafted, he signed with the Evansville Otters and hit .266/.306/.278 in 23 contests. He was picked up by the Florence Freedom for 2006 but never played for them and was released six days later. He considered going back to college to play football.
In 2007, Coker was signed by HCAW. He hit .359/.419/.487 in 9 games and stole six bases in six tries before heading back to the States to pursue other options.
