John P. Carmichael

John P. Carmichael was a respected sportwriter. He began his career in 1924 with the Milwaukee Leader. In 1927, he moved to Chicago. As a writer for the Chicago Daily News, Carmichael write a daily column called "The Barbershop", which ran for 38 years. He was also the editor for the entire run of its existence, 1938-1954, of Who's Who in the Major Leagues.
Carmichael retired at age 70 in 1972. He was awarded the J.G. Taylor Spink Award in 1974.
