[edit] Biographical Information

John Ake drowned in the Mississippi River when a boat he was riding in capsized as a result of the swell of another boat. Although he played only briefly in the majors, he made quite an impression otherwise on observers - his obituaries called him "well-known" and "famous". He was called "a general favorite" in Altoona, and "a good player".

His career started in 1881 with an amateur club. He then played professionally to the time of his death.
