John Carbine played in both the National Association and National League primarily as a first baseman. Later in 1876 he played for Milwaukee, and in 1878 he played for Indianola as a second baseman.
The book The League that Lasted describes Carbine while with Louisville impressing onlookers with his defensive ability at first base.
After baseball he worked in the printing industry.
