Joey Eijpe was 0-1 in the 2004 World Junior Championship, giving up 3 runs in 4 1/3 IP. He made his debut in Hoofdklasse in 2006 with HCAW, giving up 8 runs in 11 1/3 IP. He then was in the MLB European Academy. In 2007, the southpaw was 2-0 with a 4.55 ERA for HCAW. A year later, the 20-year-old had a 1-4, 6.33 record, giving up 64 hits in 42 2/3 IP. Despite a rocky start in '09, Eijpe was put on the Dutch team for the 2009 World Port Tournament. In his lone appearance in the event, he was rocked for nine runs in two innings in a horrendous outing against Cuba.
