[edit] Biographical Information

Joe Simpson is a long-time broadcaster who played nine years in the majors, getting most of his at-bats with the Seattle Mariners in 1979-82 when he had between 265 and 365 at-bats each year. Primarily an outfielder in the majors, he played at all three outfield positions, with slightly more appearances in center field than elsewhere.

Simpson, born in Oklahoma, attended the University of Oklahoma in 1971-73, the same years as pitcher Jackson Todd.

Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round in 1973, Joe was up in parts of each year from 1975-78, but did not appear in the Dodgers' post-season play in 1977-78.

  • Since retiring as an active player, Simpson has served as a television broadcaster for the Seattle Mariners (1987-1991) and as a radio and television broadcaster for the Atlanta Braves (1992-present).
