Joe Schaffernoth started one game in his major league career. On April 18, 1959. He didn't make it out of the first inning. He walked Wally Moon, gave up a single to John Roseboro and 2 more singles to Duke Snider and Don Demeter. He was then replaced by John Buzhardt. It was Buzhardt who took the loss as the Cubs later tied the game but eventually lost 8-7.
