Joe Schaefer is a college coach.
Schaefer hit .296 as a college shortstop and went 2-1 on the mound. He was assistant coach at Point Loma Nazarene University, his alma mater, from 2003-2008. He became head coach in 2009 and went 45-13 his first year. The team made it to the finals of the 2009 NAIA College World Series before falling to Lubbock Christian University; it was the best finish in school annals. The team went 39-18-1 the next year, making the 2010 NAIA College World Series.
His wife Cheryl is head softball coach at Point Loma Nazarenze.
