[edit] Biographical Information
Joe Lucey was a pitcher/infielder eleven years (1917-1927), three in college at Catholic University of America and Fordham University (1917-1920); eight in the minors (1920-1927); with two cups of coffee as an infielder in three games with the New York Yankees in 1920 and 10 games as a pitcher/infielder with the Boston Red Sox (1925).
He operated a sporting goods store in Holyoke, MA from 1925 until 1932 when he went to work for the Internal Revenue Service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II (BN). In 1944 he was appointed city treasurer and held that post until he retired in 1972. He died at age 83 at Providence Hospital in Holyoke following a long illness on July 30, 1980 and is buried at Calvary Cemetery in his hometown of Holyoke.
