Joe Hovlik pitched three years in the majors. Like the only other Hovlik to appear in the majors, Ed Hovlik, he pitched a couple seasons for the Washington Senators, and also added a year with the Chicago White Sox where he got most of his innings and posted a 3.06 ERA.
He went 16-7 for Peoria in 1911.
Hovlik was with Milwaukee in 1913-14. In 1913 they won the pennant, and in 1914 they repeated while Hovlik won 24 games.
Hovlik is one of the few major leaguers born in Czechoslovakia and the only one in the majors between 1887-1940.
