[edit] Biographical Information

"The Athletics drafted Joe Giebel, a former Washington amateur, who caught for the Savannah team, of the South Atlantic League, this season, and did more than his share to help that organization win a pennant." - from The Sporting Life, September 20, 1913

Catcher Joe Giebel played one game and got a hit for the 1913 Philadelphia Athletics, a team which went on to win the 1913 World Series. Joe was 21 at the time.

Giebel was born in Washington, DC in 1891, the only major leaguer born there that year. He had played for Savannah in 1911-13, where he was the same age as Dick Robertson, a teammate all three years. Robertston also came up to the majors that season, but with a different team.

In a 1916 document, he was listed as making a claim of some sort against Kansas City. Later it was allowed in part.
