Catcher Joe Erautt played in the majors in 1950-51 at ages 28-29. He was the only major leaguer out of the University of Portland between the years 1942-82. He is also one of only seven major leaguers (through 2007) born in Sasketchewan.
Phil Masi was the regular catcher both years that Joe was up with the White Sox.
Served in Italy and Algiers;Joe Erautt served in Italy and Algiers with the U.S. Army in WW2 (BN). He was a staff sergeant (VA Grave Locator). A catcher for the White Sox in 1950 and 1951, he and appeared in 32 games.
In an interview decades later, Johnny Pesky remembered that Joe had been a great high school player in Portland.
