Joseph Cunningham III

The son of Joe Cunningham, Joe Cunningham III was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as a free agent in 1984 and played five seasons in their chain. He started off with the Johnson City Cardinals, hitting .247/~.370/.408 while playing primarily first base. He split 1985 between the Savannah Cardinals (.151/~.232/.174 in 29 games) and the St. Petersburg Cardinals (.259/~.357/.317). In '86, Joe batted .230/~.358/.344 as a third baseman with the Springfield Cardinals.
In 1987, Joe hit .264/~.381/.348 in a return to St. Petersburg and he stayed there in '88 to produce at a .269/~.362/.358 rate while splitting the year between third and first.

He has been a coach for the Hamilton Redbirds (1989), Johnson City Cardinals (1990-1991), was the hitting coach of the Louisville Redbirds in 1995, a roving minor league instructor for the Cardinals in 1996, and the hitting coach of the Springfield (MO) Cardinals in 2006.
