[edit] Biographical Information
Pitcher Joe Coleman played for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1942 before serving in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he returned to baseball and earned a save in the 1948 All-Star Game. He later was a batting practice pitcher for the Boston Red Sox in the later 1950s before opening a chain of sporting goods stores in the Boston, MA area. Coleman died of a brain hemorrhage at age 74.
He was the father of big league pitcher and coach Joe Coleman Jr. His grandson, Joseph Coleman, was drafted in the 2008 amateur draft.
