Joe Callahan pitched a couple seasons for the Boston Bees. Ralph McLeod recalled that he, Callahan, Elbie Fletcher, and Vito Tamulis worked during the off-season in Gilchrist's department store, ostentibly as salesmen but mostly for show. Source: SABR Biography of Ralph McLeod.
Casey Stengel was Callahan's manager in both 1939 and 1940.
Thedeadballera.com says he died at age 32 from "cerebral embolism complicated by rheumatic heart disease and pneumonia".
Callahan was born and died in the Boston area, went to college in the area, and pitched for the local major league team.
