Joe Albanese, a 6'3" righthander from New York, NY signed as a free agent before the season with the 1951 Boston Red Sox. He spent several seasons in the minor leagues with minimal success, winning 45 games and losing 62 with a 4.13 ERA. His best season was with the 1952 Roanoke Ro-Sox where he won 13 and lost 10 in 43 games, pitching 180 innings with a 3.40 ERA.

On July 11,1958 the 1958 Red Sox sent Joe to the Washington Senators to complete an earlier deal made on June 24. The Red Sox sent Jack Spring to the Senators for Bud Byerly. Jack Spring returned to the Red Sox on July 11,1958. The Boston Red Sox sent Albanese (July 11, 1958) to the Senators to complete the trade.

Albanese made it to the Washington Senators appearing in six games in relief with no decisions before an injury to his pitching arm cut short his career.

Albanese, who graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, was a licensed architect who owned his own company in Brunswick, NJ, doing design work on industrial buildings and restaurants.

He died June 17, 2000, at age 66 in New York City.
