The son of pitcher Doc Crandall and nephew of minor league infielder Karl Crandall, Jimmie Crandall was a backup catcher in the high minors from 1932 to 1940 before becoming a minor league manager. He never made the majors as a player but served as a St. Louis Browns coach in 1953.
